Farron visits Holme Community School

South Lakes MP Tim Farron took part in everything from a Q&A about climate change through to a worm-naming ceremony during a visit to Holme Community School.

Tim was shown around the school by the School Council, and saw what the different year groups were up to. While visiting the Reception class, who were playing with worms, Tim even oversaw a worm-naming ceremony!

Tim also spent time with Years 5 and 6. Five pupils had been selected to read out letters which they had written about climate change and the effect it was having on the planet, from increased floods in places like South Lakeland through to damage to ecosystems across the globe. Tim discussed with the pupils the problem of climate change, revealing that as a teenager his second political act after joining Shelter was to join Greenpeace.

Tim also took part in a Q&A session, covering topics ranging from his role as a local MP through to his thoughts on Donald Trump.

Tim said: "I had a great visit to Holme Community School, and enjoyed seeing what the pupils are doing. It's not every day I take part in a worm-naming ceremony! The pupils' letters about climate change were very powerful, and showed their passion for this issue. Throughout our discussion and questions, I was continually impressed by the students' knowledge and concern about the issues we face both locally and globally, from flooding through to Trump. The pupils were a credit to themselves and their school."
