Farron to run half marathon for local hospice
South Lakes MP Tim Farron will run the Great Langdale Half Marathon on Saturday to help raise funds for a hospice at home nurse for the St John's Hospice.
Tim is backing the Westmorland Gazette's 'Hospice Angels' campaign, which aims to raise £30,000 to fund a nurse to visit patients in their homes.
St John's Hospice provides free palliative care to patients with life shortening conditions across the South Lakes area. It costs £3.8 million a year to run the hospice with only around 30% of this amount provided by government funding.
The Great Langdale Half Marathon is described on the website as "exceptionally hilly" and "challenging".

Tim said: "I am delighted to support this important campaign by running the Great Langdale Half Marathon. St John's Hospice does a fantastic job providing support to people across South Lakeland.
"I'd urge local people to support this campaign, and help to ensure that local residents can receive top quality care in a place they are comfortable and familiar with, as they approach the end of their lives.
"My thanks go to the Gazette for their work in setting up this campaign."
