Local MP Tim Farron has thanked popular local councillor Colin Jones for his commitment to the Windermere community, as he steps down from his roles on the county and district councils.

Colin is stepping down from the council due to family commitments that mean he won't always be in the area.

The by-election will take place on Thursday 13th October. Steve Rooke will be the Liberal Democrat candidate for the county council seat, and Andrew Jarvis will be the candidate for the Bowness North district council seat.

Tim said: "Colin was a popular local councillor who worked hard for his community. I'd like to thank Colin for his fantastic work throughout his time as a councillor.

"Colin will be missed, but it is precisely because he is conscientious and takes his role as a councillor seriously that he has decided with regret that he must step down.

"Liberal Democrats believe that councillors should, like Colin, know their communities and work hard for their areas. This is why I am delighted that we've got two outstanding potential councillors in Steve Rooke and Andrew Jarvis."
