Farron: Stickle Tarn named as a community asset is wonderful news
The iconic beauty spot Stickle Tarn has today been listed as an Asset of Community Value. Tim Farron has said that the announcement from South Lakeland District Council is 'wonderful news'.
Following the announcement Tim has made two calls on National Park bosses - firstly he called on them to 'see sense' and drop the sale altogether. But if they go ahead with a sale to a community group he has also called on them to make sure any required remedial work is done, before Stickle Tarn is passed on. The site is covered by the Reservoir Act and it is believed that major financial undertakings would have to be made by any community group taking over ownership of the site.
Tim said: "This is great news - I want to thank Jean Birkett and the Langdale Valley Association, Councillor Heidi Halliday and all the local residents who have backed this campaign. I want the National Park to go back to the drawing board on this stupid plan to sell off their assets."
