South Lakes MP Tim Farron has heralded the news that South Lakeland has been voted by viewers of Channel 4 show Relocation, Relocation as the best place to live in the UK.

In 2007 experts calculated the best and worst places to live in the UK. Since then, tens of thousands of 4Homes viewers have annually created a table of the best places to live in the UK. This year South Lakeland topped the poll, beating Hart in Hampshire and North Norfolk to win the prize.

South Lakeland was given the maximum 5 stars. It was described by Relocation, Relocation as "If you want an embarrassment of natural riches on your doorstep, then South Lakeland might just be the place." It was also described as "A stunning place to be with great people too!"

They outline the South Lakes as an "area [that] has two of the country's most breathtaking national parks, with vast swathes of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales covering the district, and can also boast Windermere, England's largest natural lake and a dream for lovers of watersports, all of which attract thousands of tourists every year. And if that wasn't enough to tempt you; the area also has the lowest crime rate in Cumbria and the second lowest in the North West."

Tim said: "We all know that South Lakeland is a wonderful place with fantastic people and stunning views but it was great news that Channel 4 and Relocation, Relocation have recognised us. We have a wonderful tourism sector and this is a great award that offers us a chance to showcase it on a national platform."
