South Lakes MP Tim Farron is asking South Lakeland's community football clubs to bid for a share of the FA's £102million grant fund to improve pitches, pavilions, and lighting.

Commenting, Tim said: "The money is waiting for collection, and I want our local clubs to get their share. The Football Foundation wants to hear from teams with plans, and I'm ready to point clubs in the right direction. There is a lot of money at the top level of the football industry, but not enough comes back to help the grassroots, so when there is a chance like this, let's take full advantage of it."

Grants will range from £10,000 up to £500,000. There will also be an opportunity to apply for smaller grants in Summer 2014.

The Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund gives grants for projects that improve facilities for football and other sport in local communities or sustain or increase participation amongst children and adults, regardless of background age, or ability.

Help children and adults to develop their physical, mental, social and moral capacities through regular participation in sport.

The types of facilities eligible for grants include:

  • grass pitches drainage/improvements
  • clubhouses and changing rooms
  • artificial turf pitches and multi-use games areas
  • fixed floodlights for artificial pitches.
