Farron calls on residents to join him and send a message to the County Council - "Fix our roads!"

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has called on local residents to email him a picture of the worst pothole in their area. Tim plans to give all the pictures to the county council and demand that they fix our roads!

In December, Tim helped secure an extra £5.9 million of roads investment for Cumbria from government over the next two years. Cumbria will be given £3.890 million in 2013/14 and £2.082 million in 2014/15. This is in addition to the current funding the council receives. In 2010/11 Cumbria County Council spent £19.2 million of its own budget on road maintenance. This was increased to £21.5 million in 2011/12.

Tim has called on the council to make sure that our area gets a decent share of the funds.

Many residents contact Tim about the state of the roads; the lack of upkeep and the constant patching our roads seem to drag on endlessly. Tim is asking residents to take a photo of the worst pothole in their area and email the photo to him at tim@timfarron.co.uk. Tim will take all these photos to the county council and demand that the council fix our roads.

Tim said: "When I'm out knocking on doors, local residents mention to me time after time the poor state of our roads. We've started referring to Cumbria Highways as Crumblier Highways! But it doesn't need to be this way. The council now has extra funding to make sure it can fix our roads. People pay enough tax on their cars, I think the least they deserve is decent roads, not roads strewn with potholes.

"I am asking local residents to send me a photo of the worst pothole in their area and I will take each and every one to the county council and demand that they fix them.

"We want to lay a public challenge to the county council - look at every one of these photos and then come and fix our roads!"
