Dog fouling fight goes to every door

26 Mar 2008

Local MP Tim Farron and Liberal Democrat Councillors have responded positively to growing concerns from constituents about the problem of dog fouling. As part of an initiative to raise awareness on this issue they have delivered specially designed biodegradable dog litter bags to every door in the constituency, along with the March edition of local Focus newsletters. Local Lib Dems have aimed to draw attention to the issue, and provide practical ways to deal with it. Those who received a bag who don't own a dog are asked to give theirs to a dog owner.

This is an unprecedented and forward thinking demonstration from the Liberal Democrats, looking to provide practical solutions to issues facing local people.

Tim Farron delivered his round of leaflets and dog litter bags in Ackenthwaite near Milnthorpe along with his 4 year old son Jude at the weekend. Tim said:

"I wholly endorse this scheme. The problem of dog fouling is anti-social and a threat to health, and is a matter that concerns me personally along with thousands of my constituents. I love taking my children for walks locally, and am always angered when those walks are partly spoiled by the presence of dog muck. Most dog-owners are responsible and clear up after their pets - it's important that we encourage the offending minority to follow their good example. I hope that our initiative raises awareness of the problem and that together we can improve our environment."
