Grange's MP Tim Farron has hailed the news that work has begun to build more than 40 affordable homes on the site of the former Berners swimming pool in the town.

A total of 43 houses and flats are expected to be in situ by spring 2015, and now contractors have moved onto the site to start the £6m project.

The Two Castles Housing Association and Esh Property Services scheme will see the transformation of the former Berners Indoor Pool site, off Berners Close, Grange. SLDC has agreed to sell the land for £1 and to make a grant of £230,000 available for the project.

More than 100 people are on the council's housing waiting list for affordable homes in Grange.

Tim said: "This is great news for Grange. I want to thank residents, councillors and the council for their work in bringing the project to this stage. To see diggers on the site and homes being built for local families is fantastic."
