630 apprentices created in the last year - Farron

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has thanked local businesses and Kendal College after figures released today by the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills showed that 630 roles had been created in Westmorland & Lonsdale.

The figures from August 2014 to April 2015 show that there were 40 more apprenticeships started in Westmorland and Lonsdale compared to Penrith and the Border. Since 2010, over 3,500 apprenticeships have been created in the South Lakes.

During the General Election campaign, Tim pledged to help create a further 4,000 apprenticeship places over the next five years.

Tim said: "This figure is a real testament to businesses, Kendal College and everyone who has backed and supported apprenticeships locally. It means that 630 people have a job and are learning a trade, and many have a chance of a well-paid job at the end of the course.

"I continue to urge businesses both big and small to look at taking on an apprentice. There are grants and packages of financial support available to take on apprentice."
