South Lakes Small Businesses Enjoy Growth

2 Jun 2016

Small businesses in Westmorland and Lonsdale have seen turnover increase by 3% compared to a year ago, a new report shows.

The report by Barclays shows that retail, construction and real estate were the sectors with the largest number of small businesses. Across the constituency, turnover in retail has increased by 5%, whilst turnover in construction and real estate has increased by 7%.

Tim said: "It is very encouraging that small businesses in our area have enjoyed this level of growth, especially considering all the disruption which has happened over the last year due to the floods. Small businesses are the backbone of the local economy, and help to provide jobs and growth. With Cumbria now very much back 'open for business' following the floods, local businesses have a bright future.

"My thanks go to all those who have invested in small businesses in our area, as well as to SLDC for the role they have played in supporting small businesses and start-ups."
