MP urges people not to travel to the Lake District this bank holiday weekend

7 May 2020

Ahead of the bank holiday weekend, local MP Tim Farron is calling for people not to travel to the Lake District to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

According to the latest figures from Public Health England, Cumbria has the 6th highest rate of coronavirus cases per head of population in the country.

Tim said: "This morning's newspapers are full of speculation about what changes to the lockdown the Prime Minister might announce on Sunday. The simple truth is we don't know.

"What we do know is that when it comes to this devastating disease nothing has changed. Hundreds upon hundreds lives are still being cruelly cut short every day.

"So no matter how nice the weather, or how tempting it may be - please do not travel to the Lake District this weekend.

"The stunning beauty of the Lakes will still be here when all this over - make sure you and your loved ones are too."
