South Lakes MP Tim Farron joined forces with local residents on Saturday morning to help clean up the foreshore in Grange.

The event was jointly organised by Tim and LOVEmyBeach, the North West campaign for cleaner beaches and seas.

Over the two hours, volunteers collected around eight and a half stone's worth of rubbish on the shoreline.

Tim said: "I want to say a massive thanks to everyone who donned their wellies and came along to help us with the litter pick.

"We were all taken aback by how much litter we found on the shoreline - especially plastic - and served as a good reminder about how serious a problem plastic pollution is.

"It's really good news that our local Lib Dem council have pledged to become single-use plastic free by the end of the year, but there's so much more for us all still to do."
