LOCAL MP DISAPPOINTED BY RESULTS OF NO CONFIDENCE VOTE

8 Jun 2022

Local MP Tim Farron is dismayed by the results of last night's no confidence vote in the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. Mr. Johnson won the vote last night with 211 Conservative MPs voting for the Prime Minister and 148 against. With 41% of his MPs voting with no confidence in Boris Johnso,n he retained his position as leader of the Conservative party by a smaller margin than Theresa May in her 2018 confidence vote.

Speaking this morning, Tim said: "For Tory MPs to keep Boris Johnson in No.10 shows that they spend more time listening to each other in Westminster than they do listening to the people in their communities.

"It increasingly feels as though the Conservative government are out of touch with people in Cumbria and are taking us for granted.

"It is clear that the government cannot focus on fighting for us as we struggle with the cost-of-living crisis and other challenges, as they are too busy fighting each other."
